“Christians should be as involved in politics and government as they are in all other realms of life.”
— Tim Keller
The following collection of media got me thinking about the ever-growing debate about the non-existent separation of church and state clause. Today more than ever there are two great needs in our (USA) Country, those who will carry out the Great Commission of Matthew 28 and Patriots who will uphold the Constitution as the founding fathers originally intended. These two are not mutually exclusive as most would have us believe.
As in the Great Commission, in Romans 13 we find another command. This one is to submit to the authorities God has appointed over us. Nowhere in the bible does it forbid true believers from becoming those authorities. While the primary “mission” of the church and its individual members must and will always remain sharing the Good News message of Christ, electing Godly men and women to lead our society should not be ignored.
Note this is not so-called “Christian Nationalism” that also has been a hot topic of late. One should consider the very idea of that as it is being defined today as an oxymoron. If we call ourselves “true Christians”, Sola Christus, Christ alone is the head of our way of life before all not this great nation. What passes as, what we are being accused of, when called Christian Nationalist for the most part I believe is nothing more than Christian Patriotism. Something no one should have an issue with.
If there is anything that will spark a spontaneous debate, if not an outright argument, it is a discussion involving politics—even among believers. As followers of Christ, what should be our attitude and our involvement with politics? It has been said that “religion and politics don’t mix.” But is that really true? Can we have political views outside the considerations of our Christian faith? The answer is no, we cannot. The Bible gives us two truths regarding our stance towards politics and government.
The mission of the church is to proclaim the gospel to the ends of the earth, not to be another merely (or even chiefly) political, social, or economic institution. The call of the Lord to the church is an essentially spiritual one. If the church loses that, she has nothing to offer the world.
In this third episode of God & Country, we dive into the question: Have Christians become too soft in the face of modern challenges? Join us as we navigate the complexities of faith, resilience, and the changing landscape of belief systems in today’s world. #christianengagement#vote#registertovote#informedvoter
