It appears the Democratic Party has regained a majority in our federal legislative body. This also appears to hold true in many gubernatorial races.
So what happened? I am not a political analyst, and I don’t want to be one; in fact, I am not a Republican. I am a Constitutionalist; yes, it is a real party, and from my point of view, a few things happened.
First, the liberal messaging was stronger than the conservative. Not necessarily better, but stronger.
I live in Mississippi. The contest between incumbent Cynde-Hyde Smith (R) and Scott Colom (D) was a daily barrage of negative advertising. Interestingly, Mr. Colom’s ads were either attack ads or ads that promised action with no substance. When pushed on the substance, like many of his fellow democratic canidates, how to fund pet projects was never answered. However, the race is still undecided; Colom’s ads resonated with young voters and those in the Delta (poorer area) of the state.
Second, the voter turnout on the left was greater.
I am convinced that the “Christian” vote could not be counted on in the numbers needed to make a difference. In my last post, “Voting and the Lesser of Two Evils,” I noted that we should not think of our vote in those terms but voting as a way of lessening evil. Also, we must address the issue of ” Christian” in name-only voters. I will use Scott Colom as an example. One of his ads shows him leaving church and saying he is a dedicated “Christian.” Yet a statement brings that into question. Scott Colom has publicly stated that he is “mostly legal” on abortion, but also says he has “always been pro‑life” as a Christian, while trusting women to make their own choices. This is Burger King theology, claiming to be something but desiring it only your way.
Lastly, the number of densely populated cities that have shifted Democratic
Over the past few decades, Mississippi has gone to 44(D) of 82 total counties. This has changed the voting here. We remain a conservative state in all but the densely populated counties where Democrats vote in large numbers. This is true in Texas, CA, OR, and many other once solid conservative states.
Well, the election is over, and the majority who voted has spoken. What now?
As citizens we need to learn from this beat down and get the correct message to the people. The concerns over the economy were and are valid, yet they are not nearly as bad as under the previous two democratic presidents. Yet somehow that message never got out. The left ran on the economy and other issues, but if you look at the “X” post from @OliviaVasques3 below you will see (just one of thousands of examples) that in reality it was a referendum of we hate Trump.
As Christians, we must obey those appointed over us, unless, of course, their orders (laws/policies) go against the will of God (the Bible). We must stand secure in what we know is true, not what we contrive as true. Below are two examples of what I mean:
2026 election post-mortem:
A dramatic shift away from 2024
An undeniable response to:
Corruption
Malfeasance
Narcissism
Arrogance
And broken promises
NEVER has a president suffered such a well-deserved repudiation
All the cries about election rigging are nothing more than sour grapes
The Sovereignty of God over all things is a deep comfort. As the old Christian saying goes, “I don’t know what tomorrow holds, but I know Who holds tomorrow.”
“For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm! God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.” (Psalm 47)
It is sad and grievous. Romans 1 says God’s “passive wrath” is when he “gives them up” to their sin and evil desires – when He stops restraining a people from destroying themselves and lets them have the evil things they want.
The United States intentionally chose things like max-boosting infant murder up to the moment of birth, legislated sexual perversion that will wreak havoc on a rising generation, the expansion of Islamic influence on our nation, elected leaders openly hostile to Christianity, and in at least 2 cases (TX and Kansas) chose what the New Testamant would define as (and I do not say this lightly or flippantly) demonic, apostate false teachers to lead them.
This is an example of Romans 1 playing out before your eyes.
There is no political solution to a spiritual problem. Politics cannot fix what politics did not break, and Mankind was broken long before any political system.
The hope of the world has been and remains Jesus Christ, reformation and revival in our nation that has the ability to reach inside the chests of men and women and make them new men and women who want (and vote for) new things.
Christ is the only way out of the chaos.
Important lessons to be learned for conservatives. Wisdom would not be to blame everything on “dumb / evil voters.”
Basic leadership: “Face the brutal facts (learn and adjust), maintain unwavering faith.”
Sadness is ok, but despair is a sin. “Therefore, we DO NOT lose heart” (2 Cor 4:16).
Head up, chest out, knees down, glory up… do not grow weary in doing good, we build and fight (Nehemiah).
What are we going to do? Get up with joy in our eyes, love in our hearts, steel in our spines and keep assaulting heaven for an outpouring of God’s Spirit, sharing Christ, planting churches, making disciples and deploying them in all areas of society in eager anticipation of the next Great Awakening in our land.
Tomb’s still empty, y’all 🙂
We do what the people of God have always done in time of need: WE PRAY.
We need to pray daily for our nation. These may seem like scary times, as many of the “democrats” elected are so-called in name only. In fact, they are socialists. Yet He who holds the world in His palm is in complete control. I encourage everyone to pray for our nation. I have listed an extract from Matthew Henry’s Method of Prayer below as a guide
5.10 Pray for the Continuance of your Nation’s Outward Peace and Tranquility
5.11 Pray for the Moral Decency and Civility of your Nation
5.12 Pray for the Healing of your Nation’s Unhappy Divisions and Success Against your Nation’s Enemies
5.13 Pray for your Head of State
5.14 Pray for the Safe and Righteous Continuation of your Civil Government
5.15 Pray for all who are Employed in the Conduct of Public Affairs
5.16 Pray for your Judges and Judicial Rulers
5.17 Pray for the Ministers of God’s Holy Word and Sacraments
5.18 Pray for the Educational Institutions and Common Citizens of your Nation
