Commentary – “Moral Depravity” – 09/15/2025

God’s Law, specifically the Sixth Commandment, forbids murder. Some attempt to argue we are no longer under God’s Law, but that is both Biblically, morally, and socially foolish.

There can be no doubt that we live in a society of ever-increasing depravity and moral decay. Lack of school prayer, same sex unions, sex transformations, mass murders, and the list goes on and on. It is always the small minority begging to be heard, thinking they have no other hope of notoriety, that seems to be making headlines today. Nearly as bad as pulling the triggers are those who, after the fact, extol their deeds. I will not bother giving voice to any of the immoral, un-American sloths that posted comments of ill will towards Mr. Kirk and his family.

I will, however, share the saddened joy it brought this old soldier’s heart to see the outpouring of love and graciousness from many professional and collegiate sports teams. I must admit, considering the track record of said teams over the past decade, it was a delightful and welcome surprise.

You did not have to agree with Charlie’s faith or politics; he never really demanded that you do so (go ahead, check the tapes). He only asked you to give him the same respect for free speech he gave you. Charlie would attentively listen to all that opposed his views on politics and religion (go ahead, check the tapes) and wisely use the speaker’s own words (showing he had listened) to respond. I never heard a disrespectful response (from him), for what would that gain?

I, like many others, pray for his family and for the continuation of Turing Point USA. I also pray for the many in this nation and around the world, those feeling disefranchised, those who think their only option is to take up arms, to strike out to call evil good.

  2. Total depravity. The first tenet of *TULIP, emphasizing the totality of humanity’s broken relationship with God and consequent compromised relationship with the rest of creation. A result of *original sin, total depravity reminds us that every person is born with his or her entire nature corrupted by *sin and at enmity with God. Sin thus affects not merely a person’s will but also her or his affections, mind and body: total is meant to claim not that fallen humans are as bad as they could be but that there is no aspect of their being that is unaffected by sin. Therefore, just as sin taints every part of our humanity, so *sanctification by God’s Spirit ultimately works on every aspect until there is unhindered communion with God in our *glorification.
