Memorial Day in America has become nothing like the original folks envisioned in 1866. Commercialization and party hardiness are the primary focus of the weekend. Few, if any, businesses close, and flowers are not shared on graves. Over the Memorial Day weekend, I get many more “thank you for your service” comments because most folks confuse Memorial Day with Veterans Day. I thank them and quietly remind them to dwell not on the living, but for all who have given their lives since our nation’s inception.

This Memorial Day, Let Us Remember
Pray for Our Nation in Honor of Our Fallen Heroes

500 Festival Memorial Service: a pause to reflect
On Memorial Day, we know our nation’s fallen heroes are on your mind and in your heart. This time of reflection holds a special importance for our nation’s veterans — and the patriotic supporters like YOU who honor and support them.
If you’re interested in sharing, we’d love to hear what Memorial Day means. Please share a memory of a loved one or a story of how you honor our heroes on Memorial Day.
For the lives we lost …
For the sacrifices made …
For the freedoms that came at a heavy cost …
Please join us for a moment of silence at 3 p.m. Eastern today to show respect for the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for veterans who are no longer with us.
As we honor our fallen and reflect on their courageous military service, may we remember that the great blessings we have as Americans are because of those who served — and sacrificed — on our behalf.
