3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. ISAIAH 53:3-4
See Chapter CONTEXT from John Gill here
Many take the above verses to mean that Christ has died for all our pain and suffering here on earth. How they can come to this distorted conclusion is beyond me, when in CONTEXT Isaiah is clearly speaking about the coming Saviour Christ Jesus and His suffering for the sins of man. This is about spiritual suffering (dead to sins) and spiritual cleansing (alive in Christ).
Reading this chapter and specifically, these verses should cause all real Christians to pause, considering we are speaking/reading about the sovereign God of all creation who thought it not below Himself to SUFFER a horribly cruel death for you and me.
