National Vietnam War Day – 2023

On March 29, our great nation recognizes National Vietnam War Veterans Day on the 50th anniversary of the date the last combat troops left South Vietnam. We honor Vietnam Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice and remember the men and women who put the lives of others ahead of their own to serve during one of America’s longest foreign wars.


National Vietnam War Veterans Day is a time to pay special tribute to the 9 million Americans who served during the Vietnam War era (active duty any time from 11/1/1955 to 5/15/75, regardless of location), to the 58,000 names memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and to those who never received the recognition they deserved when they returned to America from war… Click here to read more about National Vietnam War Veterans Day!

  • National Vietnam War Veterans Day recognizes veterans who served in the US military during the Vietnam War.
  • President Donald J. Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 on March 28, 2017 to officially recognize March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day.
  • The act encourages the display of the U.S. flag each year on March 29th.
  • The last combat troops were withdrawn on March 29th, 1973 from Vietnam.
  • Many veterans who returned home did not receive any recognition for their service.
  • These veterans came home to a divided country and many had trouble adjusting to civilian life.
