Con lisonjas seducirá a los violadores del pacto; mas el pueblo que conoce a su Dios se esforzará y actuará. (RVR 1960)
It is human nature to be appreciated. Anyone who says they do not like to get an attaboy for a job well done is either lying or just full of false humility. Husbands you understand try going a week without telling your wife “I love you” and see how that goes :).
But there is a H U G E difference between being paid a compliment for doing well, loving someone, etc. and seducing them with (AMP) smooth words [of flattery and praise].
Daniel 11 is arguably one of the most detailed and involved prophecies in the Bible. I will not attempt to put to pen what other great scholars have done before me. I will provide the following to give context to our text today:
Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible – Unabridged Daniel Overview
Matthew Henry’s Bible Commentary (concise) Daniel Chapter 11
John Gill’s Exposition of the Whole Bible- Daniel 11 Overview
Treasury of Scripture Knowledge – Daniel Oveview by Arend Remmers
If I had to give my BRIEF overview of Daniel I would first divide it into two main sections. Chapters 1-6 being the reign of current world kingdoms Greek and Persian. The Chapters 7-12 The future kingdoms (Prophecy) and the remnant.
Borrowing from Matthew Henry, we find in chapter 11 v.1-30 the angel of the Lord shows Daniel that there will be a time coming of great conflict, strife and wars. Many will be deceived but God will remain sovereign and in control.
He shall seduce with flattery those who violate the covenant,
Here is the key point of this verse (not the prophecy part) that so called believers will be seduced away by flattery. People will be so consumed with self, that God will test their faithfulness to His commandments and see if they can pass muster.
It should be evident by the lackluster, water-down Gospel messages being preached by unbiblically qualified (READ THE BOOK) persons, and being accepted by multitudes that Daniel’s prophecy is at least in some part unfolding. We same the same thing expressed by Paul in 2 Timothy 4:3 (AMP) For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine and accurate instruction [that challenges them with God’s truth]; but wanting to have their ears tickled [with something pleasing], they will accumulate for themselves [many] teachers [one after another, chosen] to satisfy their own desires and to support the errors they hold,
I know there will be some who will say, ‘what gives God the right’, hello He is GOD! The all powerful creator of the universe who sent His only begotten Son for a propitiation for man’s sin. Something we are totally incapable of doing or desiring to do on our own.
but the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action.
Yet a remnant both in the time of Daniel, today and in the time the prophecy will be fulfilled will be found. These are those who LOVE God above all else, who as the (AMP) version puts it; …[are spiritually mature and] know their God will display strength and take action [to resist].
These folks know God, what a wonderful concept. Knowing God, while I and not sure we will ever truly and fully know God, His Word says He has given everything we need to live a very spiritual and godly life
Today’s application is simple, resist the fluff and go for the stuff. Be spiritually mature and do not fall prey to the make you feel good emotional garbage being spewed from so many pulpits today. God never called us to have itchy ears He called us to share the Genuine Gospel Message. Are you one of the Remnant?
