Chapter 33 is a sort of do over of Chapter 32. That is v.1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah the second time, meaning second time for the same subject and in a row.
What is the subject or theme of the Lord’s visitation upon Jeremiah? I would call it the Restoration of Israel (specifically from Babylon) Jeremiah 33: 1-12 and the acknowledgement of the Messiah as high Priest and King Jeremiah 33:15-26.
2 Thus saith the Lord the maker thereof, the Lord that formed it, to establish it; the Lord is his name; – This should be pretty straight forward in its interpretation to all. the Lord the maker thereof, that is He who created all the heavens and earth.
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. –
Call unto me – God urges Jeremiah to call unto to Him. God’s promises (see CONTEXT above) are not forgotten but quickened (made alive) by man’s prayer.
mighty things – The Hebrew word here is inaccessible things that is hidden or unable for man’s mind to reconcile.
thou knowest not – Some commentaries say that Jeremiah had ignored God’s previous instruction and caused this intervention. Others say this means the things God hides from man until man is ready and worthy for them to be revealed to him.
Today God is not about revealing some NEW prophecy concerning Israel to you or me; so we can not take these verses and apply them in their literal context. We can can and should however continue to seek the knowledge and understanding of our Lord God daily. I am not talking about just quoting scripture ( I knowing plenty of talking heads who can do it forward and backward and have no concept of CONTEXT) I am speaking of a deep knowledge and understanding of the Hidden Things of God, Romans 11:33.
How do we go about this? First and foremost is prayer, as God instructed Jeremiah, Call unto me, and I will answer thee. God has given each of His true born again redeem the indwelling Holy Spirit to HELP in our instruction, but we still need to ask for guidance daily from the Lord.
Secondly STUDY, STUDY and more STUDY, as yesterday’s devotional “Treasure Seekers” noted we need to be diligent Bereans using all available tools to aid our study.
