Ahora, pues, ninguna condenación hay para los que están en Cristo Jesús, los que no andan conforme a la carne, sino conforme al Espíritu. – RVR 1960
Romans 8 is packed full of doctrinal and theological gems. Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit chooses to begin the chapter with this glorious and gracious promise. We (those who are God’s elect, His truly converted born again children, those whom have made Christ Jesus Lord and Savior of their lives) are no longer condemned.
When one considers the alternative, John 3:17 says Jesus did not come to condemn the world (meaning) worldly people He came to save them. The reason Jesus did not come to condemn was because there was no need, our own actions condemn us:
John 3:19
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. – KJV
Y esta es la condenación: que la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz, porque sus obras eran malas. – RVR 1960
Do not let the rendering of “were evil” fool you into thinking past tense. It is a matter of Greek wording and translation. The inference is clear man’s deeds apart from Christ are evil, sinful, cannot be counted in the “good” column for God’s purpose and therefore all condemnable.
Has the Holy Spirit been tugging at your heart strings? It is my prayer you will answer God’s call to repentance today and claim Romans 8:1 for your own.
