Daily Devotional – Meeting Together

AMP and RVR 1960

When COVID-19 first came around I wrote that I supported the temporary restrictions on meeting in churches, the assembling together of the saints imposed by the government and was highly criticized for it by many.

Covid was at the time an unknown entity and I believe then and now the Constitution makes it clear that our elected officials are to,  insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, not just insure our first amendment right to speech and assembly.

Of course many of our elected representatives are on a Bad Power Trip and have decided that Covid-19 is a catch all excuse to infringe upon our right to assemble, speak and even earn a living; and I have written about that also.

But enough of them let me address those who claim to be “Christians” and ask you what is your excuse for not returning to the churches that are open across this nation?

Pew Research has found that 1/2 of those Pre-Covid worshipers now attend strictly online:

Half of regular worshippers have replaced in-person attendance with virtual services amid pandemic

I guess the second question for today is how is this biblically justified?

The writer of Hebrews here in the 25th Chapter  beginning in verse 19 makes the case that believers in Christ must live a new life one where we can unlike the common folks of ancient Israel enter the Holy Temple. In fact we are encouraged nay admonished to do just that fellowship together.

Not forsaking –  The Greek word Egkataleipo, translated here as forsaking means to totally abandon, to desert, renounce, give up on.

the assembling  of ourselves together, – What are we admonished, warned, or counseled not to quit on? The gathering together with fellow saints.

as the manner of some is; – Some back in the day when this was written were afraid to be seen together for fear of retribution by the Romans. The question needs to be asked how deep was their Faith?  Today (other than those who are at very HIGH RISK) what possible excuse could you have?

but exhorting one another: – Do have members, friends of your congregation not attending, encourage them.

Maybe your local church is not reopened maybe your in one of those states that still has massive restrictions what can you do? Hopefully your pastor has a plan, gather in small groups in homes for Sunday services.

Maybe your church is closed; how about finding  a church that is open and fellowship with them. I recently traveled some 6000+ miles across America #DiaperRun2020 and stopped at over 12 churches obviously none my home church. I had a great time of fellowship and praising the Lord at each.

and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. – The day is coming when “Christian” will be a name despised only  below that of “Christ” Himself. More and more hate for anything Christian is spreading across America .  Do you  really want to be that loner then?

The life of a true believer is both vertical and horizontal.

That is it is constantly pointing and seeking fellowship with the Triune God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Vertical) Prayer and private communion with God cannot be understated.

While on earth we also need human fellowship (Horizontal) with like minded believers. You may think you can survive as a “lone wolf” but the bible makes it clear that is unacceptable Proverbs 18:1

So today’s final question is quite simple, are you Meeting Together in proper Biblical  Fellowship?

American Pastors Network: Pastors Should Impart to Church Members Basic Biblical Teaching That Civil Authority Is Limited

Officials keen to enforce coronavirus-related mandates imposed by Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf have issued another spate of citations to businesses allegedly in violation, drawing criticism from faith leaders who point out Wolf’s rules were never approved by state lawmakers, which the constitution requires.

When officials flout the limitations of their offices, it’s up to citizens — led by their pastors — to hold them accountable, according to Pastor Sam Rohrer, a nine-term former state representative and the president of the American Pastors Network.

“When Executive Branch officials demand changes in the lives of their citizens which affect their duty to God or violate their constitutional guarantees of freedom, these same officials are guilty of violating their oaths of office and the constitutional Separation of Powers, and usurp the authority of the Legislature.” Rohrer said. “Pastors should guide and lead citizens in identifying these violations of moral and civil authority and seek to hold  these officials accountable to the Constitution and to the Bible, both of which make plain that all authorities are subject to God and are obligated to use their power with fidelity. In the United States, this starts with obeying constitutional limits for each branch of government.

“Many Christians assume that the Bible commands people to yield blindly to authorities or to follow every command of every person in office, but this is not true.” Rohrer continued. “America’s pastors must lead their flocks to properly understand the principles of basic authority, which demand ordered submission insofar as they uphold the Revealed Law of God, which is then reflected — in our nation — in our state and federal Constitutions.

“Christians need to grasp from the apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans in the New Testament that authorities who rebel against God’s authority undermine the basis of their own authority,” Rohrer concluded.

Rohrer says the preservation of religious liberty hinges on whether America’s pastors will speak up and stand up against unlawful actions imposed on them — in disobedience to the highest civil laws of man and highest moral laws of God.

“The law is the law. Just law starts, of necessity, with objective truth — God’s moral Truth, and in our nation the precepts of the State and Federal Constitutions as our highest civil truth,” Rohrer said. “When either body of truth is ignored or redefined, both the moral and civil law are violated. It is then the citizen’s duty led by others in authority — in either civil government or the pulpit — to biblically and constitutionally resist that law or order and to seek a re-calibration to the truth and law. We as pastors, teachers and defenders of the truth, are urging that our legislators and all people begin asking the right first questions: ‘What is the law?’ And ‘What is the authority behind the civil order or directive?’ ”

APN President: Pennsylvania Impeachment Controversy a Civics Lesson in Separation of Powers

Photo by Katherine McAdoo on Unsplash

As states continue to roll back pandemic-induced restrictions, efforts to impeach Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf (D) regarding his use of power during the crisis have escalated. Rep. Daryl Metcalf (R-Butler County) introduced legislation bearing five articles of impeachment that allege unlawful unilateral action by Wolf.

The controversy is a prime opportunity for all parties and members of government to reacquaint themselves with bedrock constitutional principles, according to American Pastors Network President Sam Rohrer…

“Unless bureaucracy is constantly resisted…”

American Minute with Bill Federer

Coolidge: “Unless bureaucracy is constantly resisted it breaks down representative government … having authority over everybody and being responsible to nobody”

President Calvin Coolidge warned in a speech at the College of William and Mary, MAY 15, 1926:

“But there is another … recent development … the greatly disproportionate influence of organized minorities …

Artificial propaganda, paid agitators, selfish interests, all impinge upon members of legislative bodies to force them to represent special elements rather than the great body of their constituency.”

Coolidge continued:

“When they are successful, minority rule is established …

The result is an extravagance on the part of the Government which is ruinous to the people and a multiplicity of regulations and restrictions for the conduct of all kinds of necessary business , which becomes little less than oppressive …”

Coolidge continued, exposing the autocratic deep-state bureaucracy:

“No plan of centralization has ever been adopted which did not result in bureaucracy, tyranny, inflexibility, reaction, and decline.

Of all forms of government, those administered by bureaus are about the least satisfactory to an enlightened and progressive people.

Being irresponsible they become autocratic …

.. Unless bureaucracy is constantly resisted it breaks down representative government and overwhelms democracy.

It … sets up the pretense of having authority over everybody and being responsible to nobody …”

Coolidge added:

“We must also recognize that the national administration is not and cannot be adjusted to the needs of local government …

The states should not be induced by coercion or by favor to surrender the management of their own affairs.

The Federal Government ought to resist the tendency to be loaded up with duties which the states should perform.

It does not follow that because something ought to be done the National Government ought to do it.”

An example of what Coolidge described could be the Department of Education.
