  1. I am one of those who would recommend the Book of John, but the Book of Mark might often be a better choice.

Mark tells the story of Jesus as a servant, of His obedience. That is the simpler story. Matthew tells us of Jesus as King, of His right to rule. Luke speaks of Jesus as our Savior and of the strange way He saved us. And John, with the most simple words, tells us of God and His love.

If we can understand the Book of John, that book tells us the most about Jesus, but I suppose that is also what makes that story the most difficult.

  2. I am one of those who would recommend the Book of John to new believers, but on occasion Mark may be more appropriate. Mark focuses on Jesus as a Servant, obeying God and serving others. Apparently, that is the least complex of His roles, and it is the example we must imitate. Matthew portrays Jesus as King, Luke shows Jesus as our Savior, and John focuses upon Jesus as our God, the God who loves us. God and love are very complicated, but ever so thrilling and possibly quite intimidating. The Book of Mark could be a better choice.
