Brown Butter and Pecan Blondies
Jeremiah 17:10
You may be wondering right now what in the world a delicious Southern Dessert and the book of Jeremiah have in common two things deceit and desire. If you live in the Southern US or visit one day the above pictured dessert is truly something to be desired. It is rich, creamy, nutty, and full of calories, in short, nearly pure sugar. Of course, I desire one regularly 😋. My heart’s desire does not line up with my brain telling me this is a heart attack in a cast iron skillet. While tasting good, eating this does NOTHING good for my body.
Our text for today in CONTEXT v.9-11 speak of a deceitful heart. Here we have the nation of Israel back in bad habits depending not on the God that chooses them but on their own evil desires.
Placing false trust in temporal things instead of eternal ones is a no-win situation. Whether it is decedent desserts or vain confidence in self-reliance, we always will lose if God is not directing the path. Knowing the whole time God, is watching and judging our actions (v10).
