Chapter CONTEXT from MHCC: The genealogy of Jesus. (1-17) An angel appears to Joseph. (18-25)
Our text appears in the second part of the chapter, but it is helpful to read v.1-17 and understand the royal and promised lineage of Jesus.
In our text, (and v.20) the Angel of the Lord, in a dream, comes to Joseph and says basically hold on buddy this is no ordinary child your soon-to-be wife is carrying. He is to be called Jesus (The Lord is salvation) for He will be the promised Messiah.
Now maybe it is just me y’all but my promised wife tells me she is pregnant and has never been with a man, then I get visited by The Angel of the Lord, and I am going to either freak out or start listening. Thankfully we know the story v.24, Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him.
It takes a man of character, morals, and faith to do what Joseph did, oh that God would raise an Army of such men today.
