Yesterday at church it was pointed out that Joy to the World, the famous “Christmas” hymn, that everyone belts out, was not written for Christmas at all, but for the second coming of Christ. The primary reason for corporate singing (There are over 400 references to singing and 50 specific commands to sing in the Bible) is to Glorify God and fill His people with the joy of fellowship.

The Christian faith is a faith that sings! It is God’s intention that His people sing. Throughout both the Old and New Testaments we find not only examples of God’s people singing but also repeated commands to do so. There are over 400 references to singing and 50 specific commands to sing in the Bible, including two commands by the Apostle Paul that we sing “psalms, hymns and spiritual songs” (Colossians 3:16, Ephesians 5:19). Our faith sings. It is inherent in the Christian faith to sing. It is the way God has designed us. It is the way He calls us to respond to Him…
