Colossians 3:4

When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (CSB)

Cuando Cristo, vuestra vida, se manifieste, entonces vosotros también seréis manifestados con él en gloria. (RVR 1960)

I am not sure if y’all are like me (I hope so) but I have read through the bible many times, studied it intently and still find things to amaze me daily. This morning in one of my readings, it was the verse above and the phrase; who is your[a] life that really struck a cord. So let us break it down:

CONTEXT: The Apostle Paul under divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit is writing to the church at Colossae. He presents the all sufficient, all supreme and unique person and work of Christ Jesus in the book. Christ as the central figure in all life especially redeemed life is the major theme.

Paul opens Chapter 3 with the conclusion of Chapter 2:6-23 telling them to disregard the heresies of the past beliefs and cling tightly to Christ. He continues:

v.1 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Paul is saying if you are a true believer then act like one, seek after seek the things above (righteousness). Sound familiar, it should Jesus said the same thing; Matthew 6:33.

v.2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Put your thoughts on Godly things not on worldly things; especially when times get tough.

v.3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. In order to be a redeemed believer one must die to self Galatians 2:20 and be raised in Christ.

When Christ, Christ is the Alpha and Omega (beginning and end) for all true believers and so it is appropriate that Paul begins v.4 with this emphasis.

who is your[a] life; Christ is the author, the originator of Spiritual life. Think on this without Christ there is no Spiritual life. Without Christ we are condemned (by our own actions John 3:19) to live in the chaos of the natural world. Without Christ we are condemned to eternal damnation.

appears, There are two things every true believer can hope for eternal life with Christ in Glory and His return. When Christ…appears Titus 2:13 what a blessed day that will be.

then you also will appear with him in glory.  Another great promise is that we too will appear with Christ in Glory. 1 John 3:2 Dear friends, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he appears,[a] we will be like him because we will see him as he is.

Conclusion: Many times life is not easy but I am forever grateful for having Christ as Lord and Savior. He is your {my} life. As Romans 8:18 says: For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.
