Until today I did not realize how often I have shared or written an article about prayer. If you want to check it out type “prayer” in the search box and be ready for nearly 900 results. Maybe that number reflects a way to help me improve my prayer life.
We are commanded to pray but as E.M. Bounds notes in the quote above this command is not one of reluctant penance but of rewarding joy.
The Bible’s Commands to Pray 1 2
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17, ESV: “… pray without ceasing…”
- James 5:16, ESV: “… pray for one another…”
- Ephesians 6:18, ESV: “… praying at all times in the Spirit…”
- 1 John 5:14, ESV: “… if we ask anything according to his will he hears us…”
- Romans 8:26, ESV: “… the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought…”
- Matthew 6:6, ESV: “… when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret…”
Do you know how many prayers are mentioned in the Bible (and how many were answered)? Here’s the answer to that question and other things you should know about the prayer in the Bible.

Why must I pray – 10 Reasons for Prayer
One of the primary things I have learned about prayer is to be reverent. This is especially true in corporate prayer. Far too often today we hear folks speaking in an almost impertinent manner. God deserves the utmost Glory, Honor, and Respect when we pray.

Far too often, prayer is viewed as a “magic formula.” Some believe that if we do not say exactly the right things, or pray in the right position, God will not hear and answer our prayer. This is completely unbiblical. God does not answer our prayers based on when we pray, where we are, what position our body is in, or in what order we word our prayers.
HOW TO PRAY! What is the proper way to pray?
The best correction for this type of error is the Word of God, commonly known as The Lord’s Prayer or Model Prayer.
In conclusion, God, in all His glory must be the center of our prayer lives. The following quote from A.W. Tozer I think sums it up quite well. We must stand on the firm ground of Biblical Text.
Having thus engaged our hearts to approach God. Jeremiah 30:21(ESV)
We must solemnly address ourselves to that infinitely great and glorious Being with whom we have to do, as those who are possessed with a full belief of his presence and a holy awe and reverence of his Majesty, which we may do in such expressions as these…
