Devotional Thought for Today – 04/29/2022

Those that know me, know I love real football ๐Ÿ˜‰, or as we Americans call it soccer. I grew up playing the game and now I have the great joy of watching one of my grandsons play varsity HS soccer. The above picture, although satire has a basis of truth for both the Premier League Football that I watch, culture in general, and sadly many “Christians.”

Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines Whining as; WHININGย participle present tenseย Expressing murmurs by a mean plaintive tone or cant. It also defines murmuring as; MUR’MURER,ย nounย One who murmurs; one who complains sullenly; a grumbler.

So Whining is a serious case of a mournful complaint most times baseless in all actuality. The Greek word translated as โ€œcomplainerโ€ means literally โ€œone who is discontented with his lot in life.โ€ As True Believers, the Bible challenges and encourages us not to be complainers Philippians 2:14-15, 1 Peter 4:9. This is not to say we can not question our circumstances (remember Job) yet we are to do this without complaint, or murmuring.

Remember as James says the end goal, the prize we are looking forward to is the Crown of Life. I am pretty sure that trumps all earthly complaints.

Our New Bodies

โ€œJust as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenlyโ€ (1 Corinthians 15:49).

All believers can look forward to one day receiving new bodies and new images.
