“And the world with its lust is passing away, but the one who does the will of God remains forever.” – – 1 John 2:17 (CSB)
Here John finishes up his section on right Christian thinking. Note that our focus should not be on the world with all its vain riches that we can not take with us. These are passing away or passing by us as we move through life. Also note that this is the only place John mentions “the will of God.” We know that doing God’s will has nothing to do with Salvation in fact we can not even know God’s will until we are converted.
Basically John is warning us about un-Christ like attitudes do not slip back into the cares of the world, he says. One needs to ask, if I am “born again” a “new creature” then where do these attitudes come from? Getting caught up in the affairs of the world. Today more than ever a proper “Biblical Worldview” is a must for everyone claiming to be a Christian.
Nearly 10 years ago I taught a series of lectures on A Proper Biblical Worldview, while some of the statistics are outdated (unfortunately even worse in many cases) the core of the material is just as relevant today – Mike
