Hell on Earth, the nightmare depicted by Flemish painter Pieter Bruegel in his mid-16th-century “The Triumph of Death” reflects the social upheaval and terror that followed the plague that devastated medieval Europe
I was recently having a conversation with a few “believers” and at one point in one of the guys said something to the effect that he believed that we were living in Hell here on the earth. Later that night I was reading a Facebook post in a prayer group and someone was asking for prayer saying they were struggling so because they were living in this hell here on earth. The question is are their notion that the currant times on the earth are the Hell spoken of ion the bible? My answer is an emphatic NO! It should also be yours every time someone makes this pronouncement.
But do not believe me let us look at what the bible has to say:
- Hell is for eternity Matt 25:46; Mark 9:44-49; Heb 6:2; Jude 6-7; Rev 20:10
- We are not on earth for eternity: James 4:14
- Everyone suffers greatly in Hell: Matt 8:12; 13:49-50; 24:51; 25:30; Luke 13:24-30;
- Many live like fatted calves here on earth today: James 5:5
- God has a better place prepared for his chosen: Dan 12:2; 1 Cor 2-9; we will not live in hell
Of course there are many more text we could look at but this quick sampling I think makes the point. Regardless of our present circumstances we are not “living” nor “experianceing” Hell on earth today. Is life tough for many yes, is it tougher for some than others of course, but that should mean just one thing and opportunity to “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Prov 3:5-6(KJV)
For Christ himself noted that things for believers would not always be smooth; “But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. 27 Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]” John 14:26-27 (AMP) He gave us “The Helper” to get us through everyday the problem for those who claim we are in hell here is they seem to have forgotten Him.
