Many of you know I have been posting a series of sermon/articles entitled Sunday’s Sermon Series – Civil Government: that are from James M. Wilson and based on Romans 13:1-7
For today I want to depart from this a little and even slightly break one of my “Golden Rules” of Proper Biblical Exegesis. This is I am going to SLIGHTLY take something out of it’s direct context. We are going to look at v.7 so feel free to critique 🙂

CONTEXT v.7
Proper context of course demands that this is referring to Government Authorities, you can not read verses 1-6 and not conclude that. After all it begins Let every person be subject to the governing authorities…
The question is who are the “THEM” does it mean only elected officials?
Pay to all what is owed to them…? My contention is that it DOES NOT just have to be elected representatives of Government. It can and should mean Government workers also. I am referring to our
Our Military Service Members
Our First Responders
Our Fire and Police Departments
Others to consider:
Medical Staff
The Volunteers Serving during Disasters and Pandemics
We may not owe them taxes or direct revenue but we owe them much respect and they deserve to be honored.
1 Peter 2:17 says Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor.
Today’s Questions
Say What?
Observation: What did I read? What struck you as most meaningful?
So What?
Interpretation: What does it mean? Overall and the most meaningful? Did it change your view on Honor?
Now What?
Application: How does it apply to me?
Then What?
Implementation: What do I do? How can I start living it out today?
