“It is fatal to enter a war without the will to win it.”
Douglas MacArthur
In the military having to raise a white flag usually designates a call for a temporary truce or that your side has lost the battle.1 Surrender is never something that a service member or army expects or wants to do. As the quote above addresses, men and armies enter into battle with the will and intent of winning. Winston Churchill famously stated in WWII:

As Christians on the other hand we understand the only way to win the battle against sin is to Surrender All.

Faith, as Paul saw it, was a living, flaming thing leading to surrender and obedience to the commandments of Christ.
– A. W. Tozer
Surrendering all to God is not something as simple as going forward at a “Crusade” or “Alter Call,” if it were America would be a much better place. No surrendering all requires a total unconditional change from me first to Christ first in all things.2 Do not get me wrong it is a process,3 but the final victory, the only victory that counts, comes from those God has chosen and freely surrender all making Him Lord of their lives.
Unless you have made a complete surrender and are doing his will it will avail you nothing if you’ve reformed a thousand times and have your name on fifty church records.
