Have not I commanded thee?

This is an often quoted verse for encouragement and reassurance to believers. What is just as often neglected is the context in which it is spoken especially the preceding verse: (ESV) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it…

9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest Joshua 1:9

Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente; no temas ni desmayes, porque Jehová tu Dios estará contigo en dondequiera que vayas. (RVR 1960)
