The last verse is so true, we hold tight like we might lose a precious treasure that was never ours in the first place.

Grace freely given,
yet, seldom grace we share
with those whom we love
to show them that we care.
We hold on to the past,
bitter, resentful old grudges
making ourselves the jury
and their earthly judges.
Forgiving we might try,
forgetting takes so much more
to hurtful things said and done
we keep opening the door.
We pick out others faults,
we blame, condemn, criticize
yet, we cannot see the plank
in our very own eyes.
Yes, these are redeemed people,
that I am talking about . . .
we except grace given freely
yet begrudgingly give it out!
